Barcelona has sacked coach Xavi Hernandez and appointed former Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick in his place. Xavi will take charge of Barcelona for the last time on Saturday when they face Sevilla in the final La Liga match of the season.
The 44-year-old, who was under contract until 2025, was informed of the club's decision in a meeting with club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Mateu Alemany on Friday. The former Spanish midfielder had announced his departure from Barcelona in January.
However, in April, Laporta agreed to keep him at the club. But Xavi's critical comments had unsettled the club. After speaking about the club's financial struggles, Laporta was irritated. "Xavi's departure announcement unsettled the club," Laporta said.
